ABC Wednesday - T

T is for TEXAS

This area is famous for its beautiful dogwood trees.

The Texas state tree is the pecan. I have seven in my yard.

The state large mammal is the Longhorn.

The Texas small mammal is the armadillo.

The Texas state bird is the Mockingbird.

Here, in the Anderson County Courthouse, is a hand painted picture of the Texas State Seal as well as three of the six flags to fly over Texas. The olive leaves up the right side of the seal stand for peace, the oak leaves up the left side stand for strength. The state flag, the top one pictured, often referred to as The Lone Star Flag, was adopted on January 24, 1839 to represent the Republic of Texas. It was the fourth of the six flags to fly over Texas.

ABC Wednesday is hosted byMrs. Nesbitt at her place.

Great "T" post. I have never been to Texas. The closest I have been is Creole, LA.

I love local history, but I wouldn't like to meet that Longhorn unprotected!

You live in a rich and interesting place and you've chronicled it beautifully for ABC Wedn. Dogwoods and steers and those great flags. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely!! I love Dogwoods. We have one pecan tree in our yard and our neighbor has one and I used to love picking up the pecans off the ground. Our state bird is the Mockingbird too!

A great pictorial profile of my native state. You must have a fantastic yard if it contains seven pecan trees.

Great Texas Post. You covered the greens of East Texas very well. I did more Coastal and West Texas. There is too much variety in Texas to cover it all in one post.

Nice job.

BTW, I only have 2 Pecan trees, if you don't count the 50 that have come up where the Crows and Jays buried the pecans.

Nice to be proud of your State. I've been to Texas twice. It is a beautiful state. I've only seen San Antonio, Dallas and Austin - much more to see - I hope to go back again.
The trees were beautiful.

Altho I have lots of relatives in Texas I've never been there. It looks like a beautiful state. I was surprised that your state tree is the pecan. That should be Georgia's state tree. lol

Nice job of showcasing East Texas! Glad you didn't post a photo of the armadillo since most of them are road kill! ;-)
LOVE the dogwoods!

Jealous of your pecan trees! Great job of advertising Texas. I don't like the red dirt in the part of Texas I visited. Come and see my T's.
