Baby Shower Card

Today was a work day at school. No kids, just us. We don't get one of these very often, so I took full advantage of it and got a lot of stuff done, paper work, grades, lesson plans, awards for the program Friday, etc. In February, second grade does a big Hero unit, so we decided who to study this year and pulled out resources to share.
We also had a baby shower for one of our first grade teachers. She is so cute, such a little thing and so big and pregnant. One of my good friends who retired from teaching last year be a long term sub for her in March when the baby comes.
Her theme for the baby is safari. She said she is using more green than anything. I made a card for the shower, but didn't have any jungle animals so I used a baby theme stamp set and some of the new Stampin' Up colors. The green part of the card is really darker than it shows here.

Cards, Home Made

Here are some cards I made over the past week or so. They are not beautiful like Paulie's cards or Jane's scrapbook layouts, but they are servicable and I enjoyed making them. I need to make some more thank you cards.

Card Making (for gift cards)

Christmas is getting here quickly! I've been through an orgy of shopping, card making, phone calling etc. Not to speak of the stuff for school. I think these are the final Christmas Card creations of this year! These are gift card holders. They look light blue in this picture but the ink for the swirls and the solid back are teal. The design is from a Staampin' up wheel. The larger one is holding an i-tunes card. The other two are regular sized cards.

Christmas Cards

I finished my Christmas cards today! The idea for the card came from one of the Stampin' Up meetings I attended. I changed the colors and the word stamped in the middle, and created a sentiment for the inside. The sentiment was printed from my computer and cut out using a Coluzzle as was the blue background for it. You can't see it in the picture but there is a tiny bit of glitter (extra fine) on the snowflake inside the card. I wish I could have found some snowflake shaped brads for the two tabs on the front of the card but was only able to find some BIG ones, which wouldn't do. So I use plain silver colored brads. I always feel a little disappointed in my cards, somewhat critical of them, but have always received compliments (without prompting or prodding from me) on them. So I guess they turn out fine. Any ideas on creating cards, or how this one could have been improved or changed, let me know! I enjoy talking over cards and techniques!

Stampin' Up Night (Cards for the Troops)

The monthly meeting of the Stampin' Up card making club I belong to was held yesterday evening. Four of us attended. Instead of learning a new technique or working with a new stamp set we made Christmas cards to send to troops who are recovering from injuries. We worked in an assembly line to put together 20 cards. The inside was sponged with red and green, stamped with a verse and signed. The envelopes were decorated as well. We had a lot of fun chatting and catching up as we worked. Plenty of snacks were eaten and sweet drank. Can't beat a good, cold glass of sweet tea.

After we finished the cards we played a game I had never heard of: One Hundred. It was simple, quick, and fun. To play 100 you need a die, a pencil and each person needs a piece of paper. Each person rolls the die and the one with the highest number rolls again. this is "THE NUMBER." You take turns rolling the die and when a person rolls "THE NUMBER" she grabs the pencil and starts writing numbers from one on up while the others continue to roll the die. You must write fast because as soon as one of the others roll "THE NUMBER" they will grab the pencil from you and begin writing. Continue in this fashion, don't slow down on rolling the die. The first person who writes all the numbers from 1 to 100 wins.

Birthday Card

Here is a picture of the card I made for my great-niece's birthday. Of course at one year old she won't appreciate cards much, but it was fun making it. You can't see it in this picture very well but the words "Happy birthday" are heat embossed, in pink, at an angle between the two groups of graphics.
